SCHOOL OF ARTS. [Newspaper Article] — Temora Herald and Mining Journal — 5 December 1882

SCHOOL OF ARTS. TnK importance of having a School of Arts or Mechanics' Institute in a town like this con hardly he ovor -estimated, and it is surely worthy a little effort to achieve suoh a desirable result. One of tho first requisites for Bitch an in stitution isthepoeeession of a suitable and commodious building in which to hold meetings for mutual improve. ment, to furnish class rooms, libran and reading rooms, and also rooms with flpplianoesfjr indoor amusements, such as chess, &c. In such an institution, well -managed, citizens could spend many an-hourploasantly and profitably, flTBrW ? l^MiBg pBMlo mo'n 'are W!T debted to Buch institutions for giving an impetus to their early career. THE HON JAMES WATSONS REJECTION. [Newspaper Article] — Temora Herald and Mining Journal — 8 December 1882

rusaox jambs Watson's rejec tion. Nov that the election is over there is tiiue for calm reflection on tho result uf ita for be it from us to attach any blame to the electors of this district for the choice they, have made, be lieving «s we do that they have chosen two good moil ft&d true who 'willj to the best of their ability, discharge die onerous duties they have undertaken ; but, having made a choice the electors must abide by it, whatever advantages ? or disadvantages it may produce. Ihe unseemly baste displayed by the majority of the electors in rejecting the Hon. James Watww reflects little credit on either their good taste or their judgment, and, to say the least, lays them open to a charge of base ingratitude. It may be fearlessly said that no representative ever paid such marked deference to the wants and wishes of his constituents as Mr Watmm, attending promptly to their requests, in season and out of eeason ; and tbe meed of reward he receives fur all these marks...

THE ELECTORAL ROLL. [Newspaper Article] — Temora Herald and Mining Journal — 8 December 1882

fOS ELECTORAL JtOhL. A loc»l print, with that degree of fairness which always characterises it, make some damning ohargos against a polioe officer in this town in referenoe to tho omission ot names from the Electoral Roll, It is oponly hinted that tlie omissions are duo olthor to this officer's negligence, or else that thoso electors whose names do not ap* pear are purposely disfranchised by him for political reasons. Now if these serious charges can bo substan tiated tho officer referred to cot only deserves dismissal, as his aocuser sug gests, but summary punishment in addition. Wo havo no wish to pose before tho public as apologists fur an officer who has prostituted uis position for sordid ends. If such is tho caso let him tnlrtt the conseonnnnA nf hi* acts.
