Luxton, M.L.C., who is seeking re-election for the Melbourne South Province, was held in the School of Arts' room, Prahran, on Thursday evening last. There was a large and influential attendance, and on the motion of Mr Paul Nihill, Dr B. H. Fetherston was voted to the chair. The Hon. T. Luxton, in thecourse of a short address, said he was still of opinion that closer settlement and irrigation were necessary to the prosperity of the State. We must be producers, otherwise we would ' not be prosperous. ANNIVERSARY SERVICES, j The twenty-first anniversary services of the Malvern Congre gational Church were held last Sunday morning and evening, the church being very nicely decorated for the occasion with flowers, autumn foliage and bannerettes. Special singing was rendered by the choir, under the conduotorship of Mr -Ross.- The Rev. A.' Br Gifford, pastor of the church, delivered ap propriate discourses at both services, which were very attentively listened to by large congregations. At the conclusion of the morning sermon a very effective solo was rendered by Mr Page, after which the Rev. A*. E. Gifford unveiled a . memorial photo ot the late Mr R. O'Donnell, a very old member and official of the church, and a highly respected resi dent of Malvern. Ramsay Memorial Fountain. ACCEPTED BY THE COUNCIL. ! At the Prahran council meeting on Monday evening last the Mayor (Cr Flintoff.) presented the plans of the proposed water fountain which is to be erected to perpetuate the memory of the late Dr J. K. Ramsay. The site selected for the fountain is in front of the new municipal gardens in Malvern road. The Mayor, who has taken a proncinent part in the preliminary work of obtaining the fountain, formally moved that the plans for same be accepted by the council. Cr Chambers seconded the motion. Dr Ramsay had done a large amount of good work amongst the poor of the city. Cr Upton said he would have pre ferred to have seen the fountain erected in some other part of the city, say, in the Greville street gardens. Cr Chambers pointed out, how : ever, that the si|e chosen for the ¡ fountain in Malvern road was appro i prite, as it was adjacent to the resi , dence of the late Doctor, where he had lived for many years. The motion was carried.

PRAHRAN AND MALVERN. AMALGAMATION PRO POSALS. At the meeting of the Prahran council on Monday evening last Cr Skinner, in accordance with notice of motion, moved as follows " With a view to obviating minor differences between this and the Malvern council re the High street tramway, the conference appointed to consider the question of the amal gamation of the two municipalities be asked to present a report at an early date." The mover stated that any difficul ties as regards trams could be solved j by amalgamation. He referred to the conference already held on the subject, when it was decided that i the two municipalities should be ! united. From a geographical point i of view it was natural that the two ' municipalities should be united, and j when amalgamation was accom I plished money could be borrowed to I construct the tramway, and the dis j trict developed. I The motion was carried unani mously.

Wedding. KINGHAM-BYLES. The marriage of Mr James H. Kingham, second son of Mr and Mrs B. W. Kingham, bookbinder, of Chapel street, Windsor, with Miss A. E. Byles, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Byles, of 64 Onion street, Windsor, was celebrated at the Methodist Church, Windsor, on Monday last by the Rev. E. W. Nye. The church was prettily decorated by the friends of the bride with bam- boo chrysanthemums and other suit- able flowers, the initials of the bride and bridegroom being suspended in an archway above them. The anniversary of the Prahran Pioneers' Association was held on Monday evening last in the local   Town Hall, when members to the number of about one hundred as- sembled to participate in an enter- tainment. It was one of those memorable and interesting gatherings which not only the pioneers them- selves should receive happiness and pleasure in taking part in, but one in which, also, the rising generation of Prahranites will be proud to see long continued. Many were the interest- ing reminiscences and anecdotes of Old Prahran that were related. At intervals such phrases as these could be heard while " chatting " was going on—" Do you mind the time," &c., "I remember well when," &c., ''Why, that part of Chapel street was only a paddock when I knew it first," and so on.
