A Potato Digging Record. [Newspaper Article] — Bunyip Free Press and Berwick Shire Guardian — 14 May 1914

A Potato Digging Record. In our laBt iBsue we reported that W. Dowie, of Trafalgar, had put up a world's record at Dnggan's farm, on the Moo Swamp, by digging and bagging 60 bags of Carmen potatoes in eight hours. For a wagor of £5 Dowio undertook to accomplish this feat in ten hours, but as ho struck a good crop (13 tons to tho aoro) ho completed tho job two hours inside the time stipulated. Tho holder of the previous record, ThomaB Malady, who has been digging this season on tho Kooweorup Swamp, has now challenged Dowie to a contoet for £25 aside. Malady's rccord was put up four years ago at Perriman's farm, near Trafalgar. Ho essayed to beat a Bungaree rocord of 48 bags in a day, and in a crop of American Freeman potatoes he dug and bagged 60 bags in nine hours.
