Acting Complements Piqy (Continued from page three) strongly portrayed by John Mac-Kay, whose acting this week is probably more modulated than it was in "Rhinoceros." Lydia Bruce, somewhat young for the role of Willy's understanding wife, deserves great credit for her sincere portrayal of Linda, the role originally slated for Esther Benson. Art Sokolove, as the irresponsible younger son, Happy, acts with enthusiasm, but he is almost too stereotypically happy for the part. Alfred Leberfeld won a big hand from the opening night audience for his warm performance as Willy's old friend. Max Gulack, appearing in flashbacks as Willy's adventurous brother, and Luke Sickle, as Willy's boss, are also very competent. In fact, the ensemble acting of the Pavilion Theatre company, both professionals and students in residence, becomes more rewarding with each production. The producer was wise to save "Death of a Salesman" lor the latter part of the season, for so strong a play calls for vigo...

At Senate Meeting Walker Comments On Appropriations In discussing the stale Assembly's failure to pass the University's appropriation bill with the University Senate, President Eric A. Walker said Tuesday that the big question is "how far do we go now and what head of -.team do we keep up?" He said that although he feels PRESIDENT WALKER University's credit good he knows most of the answers he doesn't know them ail. He termed the situation simply a "temporary slip" which should cause no change in the University's general direction. Saying he felt like a "man who just lost his pockotbook with $25 million," Walker said the problem of getting along without the money is not simple and lias many ramifications. He cited the tie-in of state and federal aid. faculty salaries, overhead and contracts. Expected a Break Having received assurance from the leadership of both parties in Harrisburg that there was no objection to the amount requested in the bill. Walker said he had felt righ...

President Eric A, Walker announced the decision Tuesday. He said "the urgent need to move ahead in education" left him no alternative. Adjournment of the General Assembly came August 3. In political maneuvers near the close of the session, however, 33 non-preferred appropriations bills, totaling $57 million, were defeated by the Democratic minority. The University's share of the defeated funds is $25 million. The President's action was taken in anticipation of the passage of the measures at a special session of the legislature in the fall. Money to pay for new and continuing programs will have to b...

Dean of Women s Cooperation Appreciated It was a pleasant surprise the other day to receive information from the Dean of Women's office concerning disciplinary action taken recently against coeds. We hope this change of policy is a permanent thing, not a mistaken leakage of information. Not that this newspaper, prides itself on printing names for names sake or anything of the sort, but it is felt thai publication of penalties received for infractions of University rules, in the case of females and males alike, can serve a constructive purpose. II lias been the policy of the Dean of Women's office in the past to withhold disciplinary information in order to protect the coeds involved. In actuality, however, this protective spirit has created a poor situation for other University coeds. The case in point revolves around the most controversial rule of recent as well as past years. As listed in the University Guide to Regulations Concerning Student Affairs, Conduct and Discipline, t...

He continued: "Even if they do loss off a few dollars io some worthy charity it is but a small pittance compared with what is spent for self-entertainments and self-perversions." He said that as long as college youth "continues io cling to the patterns of ieen-age behavior American college life will con tinue to run a poor second to the more serious and intellectual emphasis found in foreign colleges." Rabbi Rabinowitz added thai the young people alone are not to blame for what he criticized.
