The yelling urchins who create these alarms should remember that though it may bo fun for them to seo tho apparatus run, it is death to tho firemen in this hot weather. Persons wilfully raising false alarms of firo should bo arrested ana punished. .' " N Wo )earn that tho toll-collectors at tho different bridges extending across the Schuylkul 1 havo a good deal of troublo to prevent persons from smoking while crossing tho fridges. Sometimes hard-looking customers ovon nre found sitting in the bridges puffing away with old' pipes, in tho face ot tho notices put up prohibiting smoking. If tho practice is continued ,thcro is dancer that a torriblo firo may break out some day on oho of tho bridges and destroy much vnluablo property, beside causing great inconvenience to, tho traveling public.
