THE STATE SENTINEL. imiAt vieiLAHre i the fbice or mr.aTT. TIII7KSDAY, 31 AY S, 145. The next Campaign. Some person, dating from Evansville, is writing a series of articles addressed to the people of Indiana, through the Louisville Journal. It strikes us as a little laughable in the first place, that the writer should suppose. as te evidently docs, that there is no Whiff paper n Indiana of sufficient notoriety or character, to be worthy of the original publication of Lis elaborate essays. Perhaps he has not yet learned, being in such an out-of-the-way place as Evansville, thit Senator Dcfrees is now the Editor of the Indiana Journal. Be this as it may, we shoulJ not suppose : that any of our Whig; contemporaries ought to feel very bad at this depreciation of their respectability, for they consequently escape the " decided bore " of publishing articles as ridiculous and puerile in argument es they are unquestionably false in fact. "We thought of exposing some of the nonsensical state...

Mexico has not declared war against the United Slates ; but the official paper. El Diario del Colicrno, of the 3d insl , announces that it is in possession"of certain movements ca the part of the Government of a warlike character, which it i constrained to witlhuld from the public, as secresy is the soul if military operations ; bat that journal adda, that it trusts that the speedy and successful issue cf these oj'Crulwns will scon relieve the puLLcc uriosity in regard to thctn. . The papers of the capital ami of Vera Cruz are occupied almost exclusively with the subject of annexation. It is urged that no course is left but to declare war against the United States, but the Mexican Congress has not yet screwed up its courage to assume the responsibility of this position. Ex. THE STATE SENTINEL. ZTIM5AL TIOH.AWCE U THI TK1CC Of 11HHT. THURSDAY, MAY 15, ATTENTION. We earnestly invite all who desire to take the COOX-SKINNER during the Campaign now opening, to send on their orders without delay. - This is the more necessary, as we shall print no more of any number than are actually subscribed for, and therefore cannot supply back numbers to any great extent. The Congressional Nominations in most of the Districts are not yet made, and, indeed, but few. of the counties have yet named their candidates for' the General Assembly. This, however, will soon be done, and the steam be fairly got up. Our paper then, we hope, will become a little more spirited. than irnowis. We shall endeavor to maintain the vantage ground, so nobly won by the united energies of the Democracy of Indiana, and which in view of the immense issues depending on the result of the approaching contest, HAS BECOME OF NATIONAL AS WELL AS STATE IMPORTANCE. The rights, dignity and honor of our cou...

From The Union. To I lie l'ublic. Wc cannot assume the editorial chair that has been mo gracefully Tacated hy oar worthy predecessors, without paying them the tribute tu which we think them so justly entitled. Public gratitude demands tili expression at our Lands. Our private feelings could nut be satisfied without pouring them forth. We caunot dismiss the editors of the Glube to the genial shades of private life to which they are about to retire without sayinj, iri th presence of the nation, that they deserve the verdict of tluir approbation. Mr. Blair has had a stormy sea to encounter. Questions tf the hibeit importance to the .destinies of our country have necessarily come under his supervision. I2riii!i Interference. The London Time of May 2d, in an editorial article upon "Oregon, Texas and England," utters the following languige. 'Tha part taken by England and France on this qusation, for we arc happy to find that ihz most entire concurrence prevails between the two great powers by w.iich Texas was first recognized in Europe, has beu d4ctat;d by no such selfish or exclusive objects. To them individually, the annexation of Texas offers no very formidable dangers, and her independence promises no very certain or conspicuous advantages. But they are actuated by a sincere d?sirc tj uphold in America that respect for territorial rights which is the only sure basis of peace ; and in maintaining the independence of Texas, they miy hope to establish an important element in the distribution of poer over North America. There, as well as in Europe, an universal dominion is impracticable." To this insolence the Philadelphia Ledger makes the following appropriate reply : Whether offic...
