The Family Quarrel . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 27 August 1853

The Family Quarrel . Thero was quite a little flare up at a public house in Chambersstreet one day last week between Mr . W . J . Florence and Barney Williams , the Irish comedian . Mr . Florence , it seems , camo off second best , though the conduct of Ir . Williams does not place htm in a very enviable position in the eyes of the public . The quarrel , it seems , orig inated from Mr . Florence , during his recent engagement in Philadel phia , performing , or rather attempting to perform some of the p ieces belonging exclusivel y to Mr . Williams . On the parties meeting in this city , words ensued , and during the controversy Mr . Williams disgraced his calling by enforcing his argument with the assistance ofa heavy blow on the head of Mr . Florence . In this , Mr . Williams erred , for a word and a blow is not always considered a mark of gentility and good breeding , and a proper regard for t ] je feelings of the ladies in the case , should have alone prevented him from resorting...
