Does the mortgage worry you ? What s the use of trying to own a farm where land is so high if you have got to have a mortgage hanging over your head to worry you and to keep you poor paying the interest on it ? Why not sell out and go to the Southwest where you can own a big farm without a mortgage ? Good rich land is so cheap in the Southwest that you can buy a farm without having to mortgage it . This land is rapidly increasing in value—so much so , that in a few short years it will command as high a price as your present hi gh-priced mortgaged farm and you will OWll it all without a cent of debt against it . You can buy a good farm in the Southwest at a small fraction of the cost of land in your state . On this land you can grow 30 bushels of wheat , 50 bushels of corn or 90 bushels of oats . You will have good markets and will get top notch prices for all you raise . You will have good schools and churches , a healthful climate , and you will prosper . Now is the time to move to...

TRUE TALES OF OUR "DUMB " FRIENDS . [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 16 February 1907

TRUE TALES OF OUR DUMB FRIENDS . BY FRANCES GIIJ 3 REATH INGERSOIX . That our four-footed friends are not so dumb as regards some qualities supposedly characteristic of the human species alone , the following anecdotes may show : Malty was a stray cat , but was adopted by the entire family and when her four babies came , she was given a warm nest in the unfloored half of the woodshed . The other part was used as a washroom . One day , when the kits were about two weeks old , as I stood at the tub , washing , she picked one up , brought it to me , laid it down at my feet , and went back to her nest . I took it back and placed it with the others . In a short while , she picked the same one up again , brought it to me , and deliberately dropped it into a puddle of water in a hollow in the floor , and went back and lay down by the others again . I took it to her the second time , put it down close beside her , giving her a box or two on the ear . I then noticed for the first time that t...
