Council Capers by Bill Gargaro The two subjects debated at the last Student Council meeting were signed by irrelevancy and misunderstanding-. Mr . Coleman of the Council revision committee asked for a clarification of the purpose oJ the committee so that they might know what it was they were supposed to look into . As far as I could see , he never quite was answered Then Jim McShane and Mike McAllister did a kind of intellectua : folk dance involving Beatniks , one-act plays , Lenten traditions , all _oi which amounted to a station-cross between I ve Got a Secret and the lady wrestlers . If I ever find out what really happened I promise tc tell you . Youll be the first to know . In view of the fact that last Wednesday s meeting was so drj and uneventful ( it only lasted two and a half hours ) I would like tc utilize this occasion by presenting to you , with your permission , mj Student Council Predictions for 1960 . Are you ready ? Let s go . . ( Trumpet fanfare . . . ) Prediction !...

Special Committee ( Continued from Page 4 ) tional heads , who achieve their positions due to ability , interest , and spirit manifested in their respective fields . They may or may not lie popular among the student body in general , but by their initiative and ability have acquired a seat on the Council . Some Council members feel , however , that all the organizations now on the Council are not large or influential enough to command individual membership . This is the question which Colemans committee will ultimately have to face . Also , it must be decided whether or not more elected members should be added to fill any possible vacancies in the event of membership revision , and whether or not this will increase the effectiveness of the Council . In order to obtain student opinion on these vital questions , the committee plans to conduct some type of survey . The means to obtain such information is also subject to internal debate within the committee . Some wish only a questionna...

The Lantern by Dennis Duffy Sink the Bismarck ! is an engaging semi-documentary which treats , as you may have guessed , of the destruction of the German battleship by the Royal Navy in May , 1941 . Semi-documentaries , further examples of which would be The Sinking of the Graf Spee and Dunkirk , treat of historical events in a manner not fully factual . Certain personalities , often ones central to the action , are distorted or even wholly altered in order to provide some sort of what is assumed to be a greater dramatic interest . In this ease we have what is known in the trade as a love-interest , an innocuous phrase which covers anything from heterosexuality to Krafft-Ebing . It is one of the gray facts of existence that intensely dramatic events are often peopled by singularly commonplace characters . As no overwhelmingly arresting personalities were actually involved in the conflict , the real drama of the Bismarcks defeat consists in the myriad of climactic moments which occur...

Well do I recollect the tizzy in the academic world when Gransmire opened its portals ! What a buzz there was , what a brouhaha in faculty common rooms , what a rattling of teacups , when Dr . Agnes Thudd Sigafoos , first president of Gransmire , lifted her learned old head and announced defiantly , We will teach the student , not the course . There will be no marks , no exams , no requirements . This , by George , is Progressive Education ! Well sir , forward-looking maidens all over the country cast off their fetters and came...

1 - f [ _fp . rj . V ¦ _jM ¦ jm ,, . : • SNOWED IN . Hoyas awoke Saturdaymorning to dire radio forecasts . Abominable weather , unknown submarines , milk shortages , and emergency plans 2 and 4 ( designed to alleviate the consequences of the impending holocaust and immobilization ) were the news . Washington prepared for a frostbitten death under the proposed six inches of snow . By 9 : 00 p . m . Saturday night , the prediction came true . Equatorial Hoyas constructed their first snow spheres while their more polar cousins scoffed at so much fuss over the frost . After the terminus of the basketball melee , many Hoyas , with nothing better to do , discovered that they could wreak vengeance on the serving line of the cafeteria and toboggan at the same time . They deviously acquired trays from the cafeteria and slid down the slippery ice-covered driveway in front of New South . The crowd attracted was incom ¬ parable numerically to the mob with their filched trays which slid down on ...
