HIXTS FOR THE HOUSEHOLD. The free use of lemon juice acd sugar will alwavs relieve a cougb. Boil the Deelinirs of old potatoes in our porcelain kettle; it will be made white and the stains will disappear. One of the best salves for family use can ba made of 1 of fresh mutton suet, j of sweet leaf lard and a large handful or two of plantain leaves. Cut up the suet Mid lard, and put them in a clean saucepan over a moderate fire, wash and free the leaves from decayed or imperfect matter, dry thorn on a clean cloth and throw them in with the fats; let them stew an hour or so; take care that the mixture does not scorch; strain it in any vessel handy to Dut it awav in. and when half cool per fume, if wished, with a few drops of rose. Clean smoky marble by brushing a paste ol chloride ot lime ana waierover the surface. If there are grease-spots apply a paste of crude potash and whit ing. These are strained and put up precisely as nickled teachc3. with spices and vine gar. They will turn dark, but all fruit picKica witn spices uu uu. To cook cauliflower, choose white firm ones, pick off the broken or hard leaves and turn the stalk. Plunge it into cold water with a little salt on head downward for an honr.
