ST. JOHNS, APACHE COUNTY, ARIZONA TERRITORY, THURSDAY, MAY 9, 1889. NUMBER 25 r3 Ml The Adams' Diggings. The Los Angeles Times has arti cles on the search for the Adams' Diggings which the Gallup News Register takes to task. Without being presumptuous, and with due deference to our worth' contempo raries, we will chip in and make it three-handed There are patrons of the Jemez Guide who will, we fear, drop de u: when the Adams' diggings are real -ly founc, and it comes within our province to put all parties in the 'controversy to ri slits, in so far as we are able so to do. "Adams 13 Adams and old man Patterson is his prophet" this much we swear to. Old man Pat terson is the head and front of the search, but if any one thinks Pat fcrson is looking for it on the Nav ajo Reservation he ia losing his time. Ve don't believe Patterson's vote would be challenged in this precinct so much does he live in it, jlr. r. is well aware that ever' move he makes in the Jemez coun try is shadowed, an...

VOLUME 5. NUMBER 26 ST. JOHNS, APACHE COUNTY, ARIZONA TERRITORY, THURSDAY, MAY 16, 18S9. ' Brain-Powcr of Plants. The modern student of plant life no longer regards the objects of his study as so many things which merely demand classification and arrangement, and whose history is exhausted when a couple of Latin or Greek names have been append ed to each specimen. On the con trary, the botanist of to-day seeks to unravel the mysteries of plant life. For him the plant is no longer ah inanimate being, but stands re vealed as an organism exhibiting animal functions, such as breathing, circulation of blood or sap, various complex movements, and sleeping, which are as certainly equalty well defined as are the analagous traits in the existence of the animal. We have seen that all these functions in the animal kingdom cannot be per formed except by the agency of the various nerves, etc.. and that there must be a source of power behind the different nerve cells of which the brain is compose...
