THE JOURNAL. A Capital Joke. And r!1 the moro palatable be cause it is true, and can be vouched for, took place a few Sundays since at on a of tfaa prominent New Jersey churches. It seems that a worthy deacon had been very industrious in book, costing seventy-fire cents. At the service in question, the minister, just before dismising, the congregation, rose and said: "All you who have children to baptize will present them .next Sabbath." ' The deacon, who, by the way, was a little deaf, having an eye to selling tne DOOK8, and supposing his pastor was referring to them, im mediately jumped up and shouted, "And all you who haven't any, can get as many as you want by callinsr on me, at seventy-five cents each.15. lhe preacher looked cross-eyeu $1 the brothers, the brothers looked at the clergymen ; the audience punched the audience in the side, the bobble grew larger untill it burst into a loud guffaw; ladies colored up, crimsoned blushed, and thanked the lord for the low price of peop...

THE JOURNAL.' A. H.BA1.SLEY, Editor. ERBOISTX OHIO. FRIDAY, PecfEber 2, ISIO. The Sulfrage Convention at Cleve land, last week, was a meager affair, and attracted but little attention compared with what the one a year figo did. The novelty has worn off, and the movement will probably die casv. As compared with the fiscal year before last, the last hows that the Government expenses have been re duced $22-2,000 per day, that taxes w ere largely reduced, and that about 100,000.000 of debt were paid. This is what the Democracy denounce as a failure. Such failures are accept able to the people. The kepokt of Secretary Delano, upon tha Internal Revenue, shows that the increase of revenue fur the fiscal year of 1870 have reached $186,235,6C6 97 against 160,039, 344 29 for the fiscal year of 18G9 an increase of $25,190,523 08. A very decided improvement After the law of July 1870 has fully gone into effect, it is estimated the reciepts from all sources will reach $120, 418,031. . The Secret...
