Fireside Department. From the Lutheran Observer. From the Lutheran Observer. JOURNEY TO INDIA. [CONCLUSION.] It was a long ride oyer the Red Sea. A little sketch -will explain its peculiarities. This is the hot test sea in the eastern route, and dreaded in midsummer. "We were sailing along opposite to, and out of sight of, Mecca. With lungs long ing for even the little current, we were compelled to sit behind a shelter and watch it play on the awning edges. The sea tempt ed us to pitch ourselves into its waters, and was glass-like and covered, with sheen. Patches of brown sea wood, and shifting, variously colored jelly fishes, lazily drifted by. Coral islands, above the surface of ...

Fireside Department. A Bible With Pins In It. It was an old Bible, a family Bible, a well-worn Bible, the Bi ble of an old lady, who had read it, and walked by it, and fed on it, and prayed over it, for a long lifetime. As she grew older and older her sight began to fail, and she found it hard to find her favorite verses. But she could not live without them ; so what did "she do? She stuck a nin in them, one Ty one, and after her death they counted one linndreu ana sixty eight. When neoDle went to see her she would open her Bible, and feeline over the nase after her Din she would say, "Head there," or, "Eead here ;" and she knew pretty wall what verse was-stuck by that pin, and what by this pin. She could indeed say of her prec ious Bible, "Hove thy command merits above gold, yea, above fine gold. They are sweeter to me than honey and the honeycomb." Seventy Pairs of Hands.
