$hc R'i\'\X\} JXcuts. DKNISON. FRIDAY JULY 19, 1878. Hayos on the War-path. After a season of inactivity the fraudulent President has commenced a vigorous onslaught upon the ene- my. His first blow was aimed at Roscoe Conkling, and it struck him square between the eyes. Conklin has been booted out of the Custom House with as little ceremony as a man would kick an intruding cur out of his parlor. The Washington correspondent of the Scdalia Democrat says the whole city is talking about it, and everybody is surprised at the sudden energy displayed by Hayes. He cal- culated his chanccs well, and waited in seeming indifference until Con- gress adjourned $nd the Conkling men were contcnt to believe that the administration was asleep and indis- posed io ever stir in the matter again. Hence the effect of the sud- den blow, so thorough and so unex- pected. There is not the slightest doubt lot believing that these re- movals were directed solely by po- litical considerations. It is the sec- o...

DENISON . SUNDAY MOllNING. Why an Indian Princess wait Returned to Her Tribe—A Texas Story. An Austin, Tex., correspondent of tho St. Louis Gkibe-Democrat*ays: Among the old settlers of Texas— those who wore here at the time of the revolution of 1835—there are Indian legends and stories of the gentle red- skins enough still afloat to make vol- umes of matter, more sensational than all the imaginary fiction of yellow-cov- ered dime novels. One of these is con- nected with the early history of the now thriving interior City of Waco, central Texas. In 1834 it was but a small frontier hamlet, still subject to incur- sions of the red barbarians, just as Ban- dera and Mason counties are at the present day. It turned out she was the daughter of the old chief, or Big Medicine, of the...
