ORDINARY MONTHLY MEETING.   The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. With reference to the road roller, Cr. FARM CALENDAR FOR AUGUST. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 3 August 1883

FARMI CALENDAR FOR AUGUST. S(ROM M'tVORt' PARBeR'S ANNUAL.) The season for lambing differs some what throughout the various districts of the colony, but on the average, August finds the lambs ready for the important operation of cutting. This operation should be per:ormed when the lambs are about a month old, and the slitting system can be recommended as preferable to thet of cutting a square piece off the end of the parse. In the slitting plan the purse is taken be tween the fingers of the left hand, and the knife drawn through it, dividing it into two parts. After the removal of the testes these ports easily grow to gether again, while the old system ne cessitates a fresh growth to replsace the severed skin, the lamb being snobject meanwhile to excessive bleeding, sald death from cold. Draining is a work that will profitably repay any attention devoted to it in such slack seasons as are sometimes found on a farm in the winter months. There are largo die. tricts in Victoria, such a...

FALSE REPRESENTATIONS REGARDING BIRTHS AND DEATHS. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 3 August 1883

FALSE REPRESENTATIONS RE GARDING BIRTHS AND DEATHS. George Hooper, who has lately oc cupied a prominent position in connec tion with tih Carter insolvency, was charged at tlie City Court on Tuesday with making certain false representa tions reganrding the birtls and death of certain children at various registration offices. Mr. Chomley appeared for the Crown, and Sir Bryan O'Loghlen for the accused. Before the evidence was proceeded with, Sir Bryan O'Loghlen raised an objection to the information on which the proceedings were founded. His contention was that the itdformua tion contained two ofninces, whereas, according to the Justices of the Peace Statute, such a document could only properly disclose one. Thelosbnich over ruled the objection. Sir Bryan O'Logh len then asked that the case might ho postponed until the charge of conspiracy now pending against the accused had been disposed of. It would clearly, ho said, be an injustice to his client to proceed in the manner the Crown pr...
