Terrible Disaster. London, April, I. A terrible shipping disaster bas oc curred in the English Channel, result ing iu much loss of life. The South-Western Railway Com' pany's steamer Stella left Southamp ton on Thursday, in command of Cap tain Reeks, on a special excursion to tbe Channel Islands, and including tbe crfiw bad 210 souls onjboard. The weather was calm and misty on leaving Southampton, and during the afternoon the mist became thicker. Captain Reeks, believing the mist was merely a fog bank, decided to go full ppejd ahead ; but the fog became denser, and the Stella, losing her bearing crashed without warning up on ^the Capquets, a dangerous group of rocks off tbe coast of Alderney, one of the Channel Islands. The execution paBSod off without mishap, death being instan taneous.
