Not much of im portaence has come before us, and as the oexcitement regsrding wheat has to a great ex5ent quieted down gain, little interest has been attached to the dayt sales. As a rule, the demand has been confined to the executlon of trade orders, the large buyers generally having abstained from operating beyond the actual wants of the day. In breadstuffs, flour is moring quietly nt Ell s 6d to £11 159. At the latter figure f.o.b., we hearof the quittance of 70 tons, but there is no great enquiry. In wheat nothing whatever of importance has transpired. More reasonable prices seem to be ruling, though actuoal biness hasbeon reporte;7d ; d and5s 7d ex store or station have been offering without leading to sales, and 5s 6d. Ir is with deep regret that we have to record the decease of Mr. Inspector Brooke Smith, which melancholy event took place about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his lodain? in Iichmona. Dome ihnrt t;m. since Mr. Smith obtained leave of absence for the purpose of recruiting his health, and, for that purpose, he visited Tasmania, but upon his return, seeing that his health had not improved, and acting upon the advice of his friends, he sent in his resignation to the Government as an Inspector of Police, which was accepted, and he was to have retired npon an allowance equal to one month's pay for every year of service, which would amount to about £900. Thedeceased gentle. man was about 48 years of'age, nearly thirty of which has been- spent in the Government service of Victoria.
