Every One at once did his best to rescue some of the property, but the fire liad already taken, such hold of the' builditig that it was impossible to do much, _td hardly anything of any value was saved, with the exception uf a horse that was re leased in safety. COMPARATIVE NMUBER3i OF THE RIVAL ARMIES. With respect to the strength of the armies, a point of much interest, it is not easy to obtain accurate information, as the iunnbors vary from lay to day. If we state the Piedmontese at 80,000 effective men. it is a very lihlerni esti mate; and in these are inccjudid the vilunteers, about :10,000 or 12,000 who enlisted in the regular army.
