MMT. 'ELIZA COAL MIN1E? ..Last week's news of.a gold syn, dicate in the district has prompted a resident' to, draw the attention of ''The Standard'.' to an opinion expressed by Mr. Assistant Sur veyor Permain, after a survey of part of Mt. Eliza on .April 10th, 1854, when he.reported officially: "Examination of the lower spring within the ravine 'in allot. 4 of block V may lead to a coal dis covery, the color and flavoring of the water being remarkable."' And so again the question arises as to .whether the various natural resources of the Peninsula have been either fully investigated. or exploited.

GARDEN SUGGESTIONS LAWNS [Newspaper Article] — Frankston Standard — 29 September 1949

GARDEN SUGGESTIONS (By J. W. Robinson, of::The Ormond Plant Farm- PyPt Ltd.) LAWNS With the advent of Spring, lawn grass will begin, to ,grow freely,- and this is a good time 'for .top-dressink. Fine sandy soil is the best for this purpose, and it is better if it is sifted. With it can be mixed bonedust or bone and super, or market garden manure at the rate of approxi mately 2 lbs. to the barrow-load, or the fertiliser can 'be put on separately. It is advisable to water the lawns after fertilising, and- top-dressing; this washes the materials into the soil. It is also .best to cut them before top dressing. It is also a good- tiine ;to sow lawn grass seed. In making a lawn the soil need not be dug -very deeply, and it should be' al lowed to stand awhile. 'to settle: Plenty of raking'is necessary ;to level up the ground. It, should also thbe raked again after :sowing. The quantity- of .grass .-seed;:? to use. is-about 1 oz. to =the .square yaid. :r!?he;- same'. fertiliser. as: meritio...
