THE CONDEMNATION OF CATTLE. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 1896. [Newspaper Article] — Western Grazier — 4 March 1896

THE CONDEMNATION OF CATTLE. 'WEDNESDAY, SrARCH 4, 1S9G. A subject often overlooked, but of great moment to thosn who are inter ested, is 'the condemnation of cattle alloged to bo dtsoused. During Inat year, out of nhout 75,000 bullocks slaughtered at Gh.'ho Island, no less than 2500 \?ore cBndomned nftor smugnter and the carcases destroyed, being an average of nbout por cont., or 225 per month. They had agreed to return tho cntcaso Butcher tho full value ho had paid for tho beast, in case it was afterwards found to bo diseased. Now, undor such circumstances, it will bo soon that it was often to tlio interest of tho slaughterer to havo a boast con demned. If it was badly bought, or was not roquirod by tbu trade, ho got his monoy back again in full, plus a certain amount of u pickings.' It is not surprising that undor theao cir cnmstauccs the system worked very badly for tho stockownore. Thoy woro not o...
