A Few Big Things. [Newspaper Article] — Queenscliff Sentinel, Drysdale, Portarlington & Sorrento Advertiser — 12 February 1887

A Few Big Things. The greatest wall in the world is the Chinese wall, built by the first emperor of the Tsin dynasty, about 239 B.C. as a pro tection against the Tartars. It traverses the northern boundary of China, and is carried over the highest hills, through the deepest valleys, across rivers and every other natural object. Its length is 1,250 miles. -Among the most remarkable natural echoes is that on Eagle's Nest, on` the banks of Killarney, in Ireland, which repeats a bugle call until it seems to be sounded, from a h'udred instruments, and that of the Naha, between Bingen and Coblentz, which repeats a sound seventeen times. The most remarkable artificial echo known is that of the castle of Simonetta, about two miles from Milan. It is.occasioned by the existence of two parallel walls of considerable length. It repeats the report of a pistol sixty times. .The greatest cataract in the world is that of 'Niagara. . The Horshoe Fall, on the Cana dian side, has a perpendicular desce...

A scientist says that a man who has been struck by lightning cannot swim. He is right. The poor devil would sink like a lump of lead. "I think I'll have to get my country-seat repaired," remarked FarniBa Byestraw, as he took a critical survey of the rear elevation of his overalls..
