LOCAL NEWS. The l]oroondarra Council at its mineeting on Monday decided to asphalt thie east side of Union-road footpath from the station as far as Canterbury-road. Several letters were sent to (ho Council and read on this subject, when Cr. Maling used his infhluence to have the work undertaken. Thile funeral of Mr. W. F. Walker, late Connmissioner of Customs, and of his only daughter, both of whom died in Engslanmd at the beginning of the year, will take place on Wednesday next, the 111th inst. A service will be held in the Congregational Church, Collins.streout, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon; and the funeral will start from the church for the lloroondarra Cemetery at 11 o'clock. The Proemier, OChief Secretary and other members of the Cabinet, togetlher with Mr. Sorvico, Sir James Mollain, the President of the Legislative Council, the Speaker of the Assembly, and other publio men will act as pall bearers.
