WOMEN DOCTORS. (From the New York Tribune.) [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 21 March 1872

WOMEN DOCTORS. (Troto the Sern Tort Tribun*.) THE prospects of medical education for women are brightening. Tho medical faculty of Moscow, it is elated, hare not only decided that thc Erivilege of acquiring a thorough practical nonledge would be of utility to women, but hero "resolved to admit them to tho educational courses and Jeotures of the University, and to the privilege of following all the labours of the Medico-Chrirurgical Academy. The Emperor has also issued en order that women shill be instructed in Midwifery, «nd authorised thom to net as surgeons, to vaccinate, and be employed as chemists." In contrast to this is the course of the professors in Edinburgh, who hove just gained their point in the University Court for the present, and stopped the progress of the ladies who have successfully passed their G ret examination. This action of the doctors is an old example of Sootch obstinacy i the University, in 18(K», passed resolutions admitting women to the full rights and pr...

iKCOMBsnr EÏTGLAKD.-My English friends confirm what I bad guested about the large number and vastness of tho private fortunes. " Toke a cab from Sydenham ; for fire miles you will pass houses which indicate an annual outlay of £1500 «md upwards." According to the official statistics of 1811, there ure one million of servants to sixteen millions of inhabitants. The liberal professions are much letter remunerated than on ihe continent. The Rockhampton Bulletin, WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE GLADSTONE OBSERVER. THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 1872. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 21 March 1872

min wmcn is iNooKrourr.n inn GLADSTONE OBSERVE R. THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 1872. THE perversity of government officials has long been proverbial. Ia tho Civil Service plain practical common sense is seemingly at a discount, and in depart- mental matters witless red-tapcism is apparently the rule of life. There arc, it is Baid, two ways of doing everything -the right and tho wrong-but the hapless government official seems irresistibly driven to do the wrong. And wo regret to say that not tho sub- ordinate officials alone are so afflicted. Undcr-SeeretarieR, and even Ministers of tho Crown, have cither to yield to the force of habit or wage a constant war faro with the principle of evil. Tho cause of this mental or mor.il obliquity we cannot profess the ability to discover. It is sufficient for us to demonstrate that it does exist, and that it supplies a sub- stantial ground of coinplaiut to a much abused public. At this present time of writing, when tho fulmiualory fit is strongly upon us...
