NEWS OF THE WEEK. During tho. eaily part of this week the peonle of Glindagai were somewhat bewildere,d anttypuzzled by the appearance of several sedate; soberly-attired strangers in the town. These beings, whose mild, intellectual features were shaded with a pensive melancholy that impressed the beholder with tho conviction that they were labouring under some recent sorrow, or undergoing some present trial, ap peared early in the morning bearing papers under their arms, passed silently down the street, and vanished near tho precincts of tho Public School. In the evening they wore again seen perambulating our neighbourhood, meekly, yet with tho aspect of those accus tomed to command, and it was singular to ^ ob serve thow young children ceased thoir pports and shrank instinctively from their benign regards. Speculation was rifo as to who these mystafious strangers could be. ? They- were not -contortionists, minstrels, or conjikejs — they were too sad. and dignified for BuchXight, fr...

THE VICE-REGAL VISIT TO WAGGA WAGGA. [Newspaper Article] — The Gundagai Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser — 25 July 1868

THE VICE-REGAL VISIT TO WAGGA\ WAGGA. j XHis reception oi me v ice-regai party ac Al bury, which we recorded in our last issue, has been rivalled by the demonstrations of wel come with which our neighbours of Wagga Wagga received their distinguished visitors. The preparations were not effected without a local dissention, which appears to have aroused snnifl mtTlpr bitter and nnritnnmnua fpAlinna and upon which the 'Express' comments at some length. It appears that at a committee meeting presided over by Mr Bayliss, P.M., Mr Wulans was appointed chairman at the dejeuner to be given to his Excellency, Messrs B. Wilkinson and J. Holloway being vice chairmen. Next evening, however, this deci sion was reversed at another meeting, the for mer assemblage being .characterised by one Bpeaker as a ' hole-and-corner affair,' and Mr X . A. x ompson was nominated to tm the chair at the entertainment, Messrs Forsyth and J. Gordon being vice-chairmen. This arrange ment after considerable dissentio...

MISCELLANEOUS. [Newspaper Article] — The Gundagai Times and Tumut, Adelong and Murrumbidgee District Advertiser — 25 July 1868

MISCELLANEOUS. It is a common saying that the lower order, of animals have not. the vices of man, yet it is certain that some of the insects are back biters, and all the quadrupeds are tale-bearers.
