BRITISH ^ct Commutecl In Jori of^Progrtio, ' iMexIco^liivestigation'Ordered ^ ^Washington :Nov: 12:-^Ttie ' Amerl-^ cab steamship Zeelandia was forcibly searched by /a party from a British cruiser last week when lying in the Port of Progreso, Mexico. The Ameri- can consul there reports the cruiser now lying outside, presumably wait- ing to seize the ship. On the face, of such a report \"as the consul sent, even though it is incom- plete, the official conclusion here is that the British naval authorities not only violated Mexican neutrality, but far exceeded their rights in forcibly searching an American ship in a neu- tral port. Forcible searching of an American ship in a neutral port probably would constitute one of the most serious is- sues to arise between the United States and Great Britain in the con- troversy now in the channels of -'di- plomacy-over the British navy% con- duct toward. THE nooB copynr NEWS NOVEMBER 2*, m.\" m FENDING POTATOES JO COWS {Value of Tubers for Milk Production Depends Upotf What Other Kinds of Feeds Are Given. The value of potatoes for milk pro- duction depends to a considerable ex- tent npon what kind of feed they are led in conijection with. With clover • or alfalfa h/iy, potatoes would have ./greater value than it fed with wild or 'timothy hay or corn fodder. This is forue because potatoes are rich in starch, or what is known as carbo- hydrates in'feeding terms, and low in protein. Clover and alfalfa are rich in protein, while the other feeds men- tioned are low in protein. Putting two feeds together that are both low in protein does not bring as good results . as when they are combined so that the feed low I in protein can be fed with a feed high in protein. By combining potatoes with some feed high in pro- tein, they could be made to- equal about one-fourth the feed value of oats (groundy forxlairy cows that is, pound for /pound Com...
