On Thursday morning, about ono o'clock, Mrs. Bcckhun, wifo of Mnjor Beckhan, tho Warden of the Wottcru Penitentiary, was aroused from sloop by a crackling noise in a room'adjoining their ohambor, upon tho first poor. On rising, Major Boukhan flaw smoko issuing from tbo room, aud upon entering itdi8covorod*quantity of hay burning upon tho tloor. The prompt applioation of a bucket of water extinguished tho fire. It was found thattho indondiary had gained access to the yard byollmbing tho Weobstor street gate, and bad reached tho window by placing b pleoo of timber botoeon tho iron bars, and ascending it.
