IMPORTANT FROM NORTH CAROLINA—THE FIGHT 1TBAB KEWBEErT. [Correspondence of the N. Y. Tribune.] Kewbxks, N. O., Feb. 1, 1S84.—For several days rumors have been going the rounds that a large rebel force was ' gathering at Kingston, near here, and-contemplated an attack. Last night (Sunday) a little after midnight tbe pickets were driven in atBacheldore Creek and Deep Gulley on the west , and at. Brier's Creek on the south. The alarm was soon communicated te Newbern from the front, which is some ten or twelve miles out, and the long roll sounded at5 A. M. this morning Some six companies ofthe 12th New York Cavalry, Col.Savage, were stationed near Deep Gulley.
