Knowledge discovered among quiet of stacks [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 19 April 1984

Knowledge discovered among quiet of stacks By James Fitzroy "Libraries tend to be a little hard to talk about," said Dr. Charles Townley, Head Librarian of Capitol Campus' Heindel Library, with a touch of understatement. "Simply stated," he explained, "the primary mission of any library is to provide access to recorded information needed by the people it serves. "We go about doing that by acquiring material, organizing it, cataloging it. We also provide assistance in delivering that material. We constantly evaluate ourselves and make plans to improve ourselves. That's the role of a library." The reality that underlies this definition is studded with complexities. Funding and physical space are continuing problems for the library faculty. "One simply, finally, has to make the decision of what you're going to spend your money on," said Townley. "In our case we have accreditation to worry about, both in Business and Technology. So we've been spending money there and those collect...

Foster returns to screen in ambitious film [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 19 April 1984

Foster returns to screen in ambitious film A Movie Review by Don Strausburger In today's world of teen sex films, one seriously wonders if Hollywood can approach the emotional aspects of strange relationships and still attract the average spectator. In the case of Hotel New Hampshire, there is still potential. The film, which is an adaptation of a John Irving novel of the same name, stars Jodie Foster as Frannie, the emotional leader of the family. The film also stars Rob Lowe as her brother, John; Beau Bridges as the eternally optomistic father; and Nastassia Kinski as Susie the Bear. The highlights of the film show the sexual transition of the growing Frannie from innocence to experience. Throughout this progression she is the victim of a gang rape by her prep school's football team, is involved in a lesbian relationship with a girl in a bear suit, experiences an incestuous evening with her brother, and finally finds happiness with the man of her dreams resulting in a racial...

I _I I Black belt wins medal By Angelo Vecchio i A Capitol Campus student , who is also an instructor here, recently won a gold medal while competing in an international martial arts comptetion. Daniel Krehling, a Business student, teaches a course in the martial arts every Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building gymnasium. The course is available to everyone, and it's free of charge. Krehling, who holds a ninthdegree black belt in kung fu, competed recently in the Olympium, a huge stadium near Toronto, where the annual International Friendship Cup was held this year. ... tawMpBHHaBaa Netters eye district win [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 19 April 1984

... tawMpBHHaBaa Netters eye district win By Angelo Vecchio With a current record of three wins and no losses, the Capitol Campus tennis team is in the midst of what could prove to be another outstanding season. The wins have come over Eastern College (9-0), Philadelphia College of the Bible (9-0), and Lincoln (6-3). The team is coached by Frank Capprell, a student/player, who was named as N.A.I.A. District 19 Coach of the Year after only his first season at the helm. Last year, he took a team that went without a victory during the entire 1982 season and improved them to the point where they lost just one regular season match in '83. Returning players include Capprell, Panos Xynerios, and Randy Owcar. Owcar and partner John Nelson won doubles titles in conference and district playoffs. Newcomers this year include Tim Frantz, Ghan Desai and John Thomas. Thomas, a basketball player for Capitol, is a former high-school tennis player. Also, some women are tra...

Batters manage despite odds [Newspaper Article] — Capitol Times — 19 April 1984

Batters manage despite odds , .. „,.. Photo by Jeffrey Q. Shatzer Randy Owcar warms up for match against Lancaster Bible. By Angelo Vecchio The Capitol Campus baseball team, with an abbreviated roster, has managed an official record of four wins and six losses, although two of the wins resulted from a double-header forfeited by Valley Forge. The team won a doubleheader against Lancaster Bible, but dropped twin bills to Saint Mary's and Eastern, and lost decisions to Allentown and Linclon. Coach Ron Melchiorre is operating with just twelve players, and he is concerned with the small number. "We have guys playing new positions. Outfielders who have never played the outfield, and others in unfamiliar places. That's one problem. And if we get any injuries, we'll really be in trouble," Melchiorre said. "The coach went on to give credit to the existing players. "I have nothing but praise for these guys. They're having a rough season, but they're staying with it, and playing to t...
