The sinking of the great Steam ship Titanic, the largest boat over Huated, and the greatest ocean disaster ever known, in which 1 ,."?)." perished and 74Tj were saved, will no doubt make the out! word, "man," have a greater and more sublime mean ing than ever before, and while it should not take one star from the diadem of "womnn" nor darken the halo that hovers :i round mother, sister, wife, daughter, it should forever ox honorate man from the many defects of which the gentler sex have for centuries been wont to taunt him. In the hour of all great peril, in war or in peace, man ha- been the protector and his own life has been the greatest shield he could offer. Kough and uncouth though he may ho and dissipated, he has a heart of steel and of gold. "The women saved, with only enough men to man the boats," for without the sturdy boats men the women would perish! What doe? it mean? It was not the choi...

It's only when tho upper streams are booming at the same time that we may expect big water down hero, which only happens at very long intervals. Fifty years ago the New Mad rid county people expected high water in .1 une, which was thought to come from the melting of the snow in tho mountains.
