The town of St. Albans, the State of Vermont, the United States of Amer ica, owe him a great debt of gratitude, in comparison with which the national debt sinks Into insignificance. Mr. Hawca has communicated to the world, through the columns of the New York Sun, very startling, but nevertheless, very gratifying news. There lives in a town in our glorious little State, a poet, Bon of the late poetess, Mrs. L. II. Sig ournoy. Fortunate town, fortunate State ! In time past wc boasted of an ISaBtman, now dead, of a fcaxe, now a re ident of another State, and of o.hcr nnntH nf minor fume : now we can boast with pride just pride of another po et. risen, as it were, from the dead, Maj Slrrnnrtipv. surnamed Andrew. VEBMONT DAILY TEANSOEIPT, 15, LS69. Vermont Daily Transcript, ST. ALBANS, VT. EllIDAY, Januauy, 14, 18C9. Atjnxo Hawes, V. O. Box 00. Tho romantic story nbottt the son of the late Mrs. L.H. Sigourncy, published in yesterday's Thanschii't, is attracting considerable attention, not only here but elsewhere. Our correspondent "Water Wheel" attempts to throw sonic light on the mysterious subject, but we arc compelled to totally disagree witli him in his conclusions. Because a young gentleman by the name of Sigourncy, who occupies the responsible position of foreman of the St. Albans Messenger Steam Book and Job Printing Estab lishment, rents box No. 00 in tho post olllce, it by no means follows that lie is in any wny connected with Alonzo llawcs. How often it is in this world of sin and sorrow, that people arc most grossly imposed upon, an I wrong mo tives imputed to them. Wo think "WatcrWhcel" is not warranted in say ing that Mr. I awes is a "personal friend" of Major Sigourney. It is t...

Vermont Daily Transcript.! ST. ALBANS, VT. Batluday, .Tanuauv, 10, 1SG0 Alonzo Ilnwcs Again. Wo give " Water-Wheel " another hearing to-tlny. Ho still insists, us will he seen on reference to his communica tton, that Major Sigourney is in sonic way connected with Alonzo Hawes ; but wc are no more convinced by hit second communication than we were by his first. It may be true .hat ihe Majoi rents box No. 510 in the St. Albans Post Office, and tlir.t letters for Alonzo Hivwes are addressed to that box. What due. that prove, we would seriously ask'. Alonzo Hawes is a crazy individual who once resided in Hartford, and. we arc told, stole some silverware from the late Mrs. Lydin 11. Sigourney. Majoi William Andrew Huntley Sigour ney is the foreman of the St. Albans Messenger Steam Hook and Job Prin ins Establishment. Where then is the resemblance between the two individuals?
