BY TK0XA3 AFFLECK. •*. • (Continued-) Sage Is another hardy perennial, propa- gated from seeds and eut tings. We have generally found it difficult to start the seeds if kept long after they are ripe. The bed should be regularly cultivated to produce good crops of (he tender shoots and leaves which are the parts used. Sage leaf tea is an almost universal remedy in chills and fever, and is much liked by negroes when slightly ailing. The dried leaves form an indispensable ingredient in sausages and force meats. There is a wild sage growing abundantly in many parts of Texas, which in fragrance and other qualities greatly resembles the sage of the garden, and to which many pre- fer it. Savory.—The summer savory is an annu- al, and requires renewal from seed sown each spring. The winter "savory is peren- nial, and should be treated as such. Tansy.—Tansy bitters are both tonic and stomachic, and are...
