FOUND AND LOST. [Newspaper Article] — Sandringham Southern Cross — 2 May 1914

FOUND) AND LOST. n n an upper room of a miserable tenement I found my 'Jove. There, in the squalor of those nameless sur roundings, she lay, her wasted armn stretched out over the ragged coverlet, her breath coming and going slowly, with a dreadful hollow murmur. And when I.looked on thlie yellow, unrecog" nizing eyes, rendered additionally ghast ly by the traces of omake-up linlgering on the lids ; on the thin wvisps of hair, gray in patches, and green and yellow where the cheap dyes had faded :on the shrun ken skin, whose coppler-hlic spots con veyed to my praticed eye an only too comnmon signiicance; on the mouth, where could he read more plainly than anywhere else that :story of degradation --when I looked on these things I closed my eyes and, llmy love alppeared to me once again, clothed in all the glory of the Dpist. She is mine--my wife'--'my lov~. She was stolen from me, but I loved ter,. He the enemy of my boyhood and )f mny manhood had taken her away from me and then flung...

TREES ON THE FARM [Newspaper Article] — Sandringham Southern Cross — 2 May 1914

lIl~R8 ON' THE FARM By II. Pyo. One of the most striking features of the plrcsent-dlay scenery of manny of the farming distriots of our state is the general absence of well. cared-for plantations of shelter and timber trees. We are more familiai with the gaunt, dead forest giants that stand like mystic sentinels of a glorious past. Ia'rmers I cannot you, who are bound by every tic of gratitude to the trees for their kindl ly shade during thlue hot noonday, and to their warm shelter from the cold winter blasts, do something to eon courage the growing of them ? Youi influence at the Agricultural Socie. ties meetings and at your conferen ces would do much to forward thle zilovement, Country teachers ! in. etil into the minds of your ?chlioac, love for trees. Do this, and you will encourage them to reflect, and save many from future mental stagnation. A farmer generally aims at obtain. ing from his land the best returns possible, but it sometimes happens that portiohs of his farm are of...
