The Pioneer. CRESSY[?] WEDNESDAY, JULY 7. [Newspaper Article] — Cressy and Lismore Pioneer and Western Plains Representative — 7 July 1915

Cbe Pioneer. CRESS*. WEDNESDAY, JULY 7. The great patriotic rally in the Town Hall at which churchmen,! University professors, leading! citizens whose voices have never been raised within the walls of Parliament, denounced party strife, shows how strongly the community resents the fatuous course Ministers are pursuing. It was in no sense a party gath ering which crowded the hall, which applauded most loudly exactly those passages which most bitingly criticised the folly of Mr Fisher and his colleagues. Dr. Rentoul, who made the most im passioned speech of the evening, admitted that he had voted to bring Mr Fisher into power, and of the audience a very large pro portion- consisted of workers who, a, while back, were whole hearted supporters of Labor. From - Archbishop Clarke, on whom the Lord Mayor called iirst, to Mr John May, who spoke 'last, all were in accord, all were jifncfosest touch with the" repre sentative. : audience. But, per haps, no one spoke any one sen tence which put...

SUNSET AFTERGLOW. [Newspaper Article] — Cressy and Lismore Pioneer and Western Plains Representative — 7 July 1915

SUNSET AFTERGLOW. Iii watching th<! western sky afVov sunset our receives the impression of an increasing intensity in the rosy glow for a time, followed by a diminution in intensity. This is, however, 1111 illu sion, as shown by phoionietrie nioiisnre mcnts recently executed by V. Gamer, in .Switzerland, lie found that, the glow of the western sky stendily diminishes after sunset", but not at the same rate as the light of the sky midway bo tween tho horizon and the zenith. The latter at first, decreases more rapidly iu intensify than tho sunset.glow, mid then less rapidly. Hence, tho appar ent increase in the intensity of the sun set glow is an elfec.t of contrast with tho illumination of tho shy at a dis tance from tho horizon.' "Tt's too bad," said Lawyer Graliall "the ivay old Sqnigging's fortune line been squandered in litigation." ' "It is, indond," ""Why, fully nine-tonths B of It has gone to his hoiri in ■vritnoss foes.''
