GOVT. AND GENERAL ORDERS. GOVERNMENT HOUSE, HOBART TOWN,   Saturday, 30th, May, 1818. THURSDAY Next being the Anniversary of HIS MAJESTY'S BIRTH-DAY, it will be observed as a Holiday throughout the Settlement. The Troops will parade at Twelve o'Clock on the Crest of the Hill in front of the Barracks, and fire a Feu-de-joie; and a Salute of Twenty-one Guns will be fired from the Platform in Honor of the Day. The Acting Deputy Assistant Commissary     General will cause to be issued to each of the Non-commissioned Officers and   Private Soldiers, One Pound of Fresh Meat, and Half-a Pint of Spirits, to drink His Majesty's Health. The Acting.Deputy Assistant Commissary     General will also cause to be issued to the several Superintendants, Overseers,   Constables, and other Persons in the actual Employ of Government, One Pound of Fresh Meat, and Half-a-Pint of Spirits each, on the above Occasion....

The Government Water Corn-Mill, which has been conftructed near the Bridge at the end of Government Garden, under the direction of Captain NAIRN, infpector of Public Works, and the immediate fuperin tendance of Edward Yates, a crown fervant   poffeffing confiderabie talents as engineer,   commenced grinding on Thurfday, and, we are happy to be enabled to ftate, with, perfect fuccefs. On Wednefday laft Mr, Dennis M'Carty commenced the undertaking, under an a greement with Government, of opening a Road from Hobart Town (by New-town, and Austin's farm) to New Norfolk.-As this road embraces the communication with the populous village of New-town, and forms the first ten miles (to the ferry) part   of the principle road to Port Dalrymple, it cannot fail to be of benefit and advantage to the Settlement. We are alfo happy to perceive the im- provement of the ftreets in this town com- menced, under the direction of Mr. Alcock.

SHIP NEWS.-On the 23d ult. arrived George-town, the brig Jupiter, Captain AINSWORTH, from this port ; but owing to the strong winds which prevailed from the southward, she was not able to get up   to Launceston on the 31ft. The following day the Rosetta, Mr. ROOK master, sailed for Port Jackson with a fine southerly wind.         The Henrietta Packet, which left this harbour on the 23d ultimo, had not arrived there on Sunday last.

BRITISH EXTACTS. ATROCIOUS PIRACY -- Palermo, June __. --A frightful event, which makes all feeling   minds tremble with h rror, his been for fome days the object of public commiferation. A felucca, belonging to Pietro la Camera, hav- ing feveral paffengers on board, had fet out   hrom Melazz_ for this city. Scarcely had it left the harbour, when it was affailed by a bark carrying fix armed Pirates, who boarded the felucca, maffacred the mafter and part of the failors, and threw their bodies overboard. Freed thus from the crew, the pirates occupied themfelves with the paffengers, of whom they fpared none---all received fevere wounds. M. Ifidore Annet, a merchant, was flain, and his body flung into the fea. Several others, in- cluding manny females, died of their wounds. ---The pirates then cut with their fabres the fails and other objects neceffary for navigation, that the felucca fhould eventually be funk. They plundered the paffengers of all their effects...

WHEREAS Thomas M'Cann, a Convict under Sentence of Trasiportation for Life, who arrived by the Ship Minorca in the Year 1801 ; and Henry Headley, also a Convict under Sentence of Transportation for   fourteen Years, who arrived by the Ship Duke of Portland in 1807, obtained Conditional Par- dons, bearing Date respectively the 4th of Fe- bruary, 1812, and the 1st of March, 1811. And whereas the said Thomas M'Cann and Henry Headley, not regarding the express Condition whereon the said Pardons were ex- tended to them; but in Disobedience to and Violation of the same, absconded from this Territory in the Year 1814; and having been apprehended and returned hither by Order of the Government of India per the Brig Grey- hound, which arrived on "the 4th Instant ; It is hereby publicly notified, by Order of His EXCELLENCY the GOVERNOR, that the said Conditional Pardons, so forfeite...
