Thx arrival of the mail at Melbourne is the event of the week, and eclipses altogether the interest or opening tbe railway extension to Singleton, though it i- no email matter to linre added more than fourteen miles to the iron road, that being tbe dis tance from Branxton to Singleton. The Governor *nd emte, accompanied by the Colonial Secretary, left Sydney on 'Wednesday evening, and a complete triumphal progress appears to have been made in tbe Hunter district. At Newcastle, Maitland, and oUier parts of the line the tiaul addresses were presented, and the business wound up with s din ner, and subsequently a ball, at Singleton.
