NEW ANIMALS AT SYDNEY ZOO. Two interesting and rare little ani- mals have just been added lo tho col- lection at thc Sydney Zoological Gardens. They aro thc mouse deer, or Chcvroeains, from the Malayan region, which arc thc smallest hoofed animals known. When -full grown they are no larger than thc rabbit, although in other rcsiwcts resembling/ the ordinary deer. The gurdchs have ulso.- 'kean -'fortunate in securing a spRtidiu specimen of thc rare great billed cockatoo from the Northern' Territory. This bird was taken from the nest by natives ut thc head of the Nicholson River, coming into tile hands of Mr. Stringer, who was collecting in the district. He took it to the coast by camel track, and thence to Port Darwin, where it was shipped to Sydney. The general colour of the bird is blue-black, with the tail feathers scarlet.;

The opium, was secreted in a case of yams consigned to a Chinese storekeeper at Wolfram Creek named Yet Lcong, who played a pro- minent part in signing a petition etc., praying for the stoppage of the importation of opium into the Terri- tory.
