STATE LAND TAX VALUATION. SHIRE COUNCIL'S ACTION. The dissatisfaction felt in the south riding of the Shire of Creswick at the valuations placed on the land by the official valuator, Mr J. T. Sloan, was mentioned at the Shire Council meeting yesterday, Cr. Leishman bringing forward a motion on the matter. He said they were there as councillors to assist the ratepayers, and he moved that the secretary write to Mr Prout Webb, Commissioner of Taxes, asking for a   fresh valuation for the south riding, and   suggesting that Mr J. T. Yates be   appointed to do the work; and if the suggestion was not adopted that Mr Webb be asked that the appeal court sit at Creswick, so that, the landowners be put to as little expense as possible. The soonor one or two cases were settled the less dissatisfaction there would be. The gentleman suggested as valuer knew his work, and had been on the land all his life.
