Tlie fruit, of the ordinary commercial variety, was packed in boxes of 20 lb. .each. The consignment arrived in London in June, and proved to have carried well. IMPROVEMENTS TO BALLOON TYRES. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 18 February 1927

IMPROVEMENTS to balloon TYRES. According to" American Automobile douni'als. some of the largest tyre | manufacturers of U.S.A. are finding it necessary to introduce alterations in the construction of their balloon tvi'in. It appears that American .mnUnru, in designing their balloon cayitlgH, have lightened a.ud thus weakeucd the side-wails to . such an extent that the percentage of side v/al! troubles has materially increased since the advent of the more flexible balloon tyres. A huge sum is now being expended by U.S.A. tyre makers in replacing existing moulds rvith new ones, to enable the rubber tread to tie brought further down on to the side-walls of cover and- thus streng then the weakest part ol' their balloon tyres. The American press refer in .this latest development as being a far reaehlug improvement in "the design of the balloon tyre, which is to be adopted by leading tyre makers of U.S.A.

CHANGE YOUR GEARS. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 18 February 1927

CHANGE YOUR GEARS. In driving a small car through the i crowded streets of a city the advan tages of changing la a lower gear frequently are not appreciated by many motorists. By changing down (as it is called) slow moving traffic can he passed more rapidly, the near side of the road being regained in a shorter space of time, and a better get-away can be made from traffic liold-ups. Then again, when coming out. of a by-road -and crossing the main stream of traffic, it is the foolish policy of many drivers to proceed a1 about 15 m.p.ii. in top gear, causing oncoming vehicles to brake" more or less violently, simply in order that (he driver who is emerging from the by-road may nave liiumelf the trouble of changing down. The correct pro cedure, of course, is to engage a lower gear before the corner is reached, making sure that the course ,is clear before endeavoring to cross -the main road. ■ If there is no one in ilie way the acceleration available 011 the lower gear will enable the c...

LIMITING FUEL IN MOTOR RACING. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 18 February 1927

LIMITING FUEL IN MOTOR RACING. A particularly interesting innovation is to be tried in international races this year in France. A limited fuel allowance has been adopted by the French Ruling Body, tor three of the biggest international races which are to be run on a definite amount of petrol and oil. The Unlimited Cap acity French Grand Prix is open to cars of any engine size, but only 97 lb, weight of petrol and oil are al lowed for the race of 248.5 miles on the Montlhery road-racing course. In practice this means that competing cars will probably have to average a fuel consumption of well over 20 miles to the gallon, while the oil consump tion must not he foo great. The Florlo Cup road race, which will take place in Brittany, near St. Rrieuc, must.-Ite run on an allowance of 14.S in.p.g. of fuel, no restriction being placed on the amount of oil used. The distance of the raee is 310 miles. Possibly the most orig inal scheme, however, is that adopted for the Boillot Cup race at Bou...

CHURCH OF CHRIST AND DR. MARTIN LUTHER. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 18 February 1927

CHURCH OF CHRIST AND DR. MARTIN LUTHER. After all. Mr. Arnold acknowledges be ing aware of Luther's llit contradiction of the limnersio'nist contention that im mersion is the only correct mode of bap tism. So far. so good, but instead of in terpreting I .lit lier'.s statement according to Luther's express direction, and candidly acknowledging his wrong, like a gentle man and a Christian, he dc-iieberately pro ceeds to do the contrary, incidentally re vealing his innocent ignorance even of j the A. B. C. of the great Reformer's rea- j Zoning. which clearly intended to show a Christian community, accustomed to the correct mode of baptizing by pouring, that baptism by immersion was not I wrong, but rather in harmony with I Christ's institution. To justify his own apostacy from the church which is faith ful to Christ's word, your correspondent then goes on to vilify and malign the I very man to whose authority lie had ap pealed for endorsement of the pet im mersionist fad, impilcitiy, a...

For some time past the residents of Karoonda have been co-operating with me to obiain this service. One of the many advantages that will be derived as a result of this service is that all the surrounding exchanges will now be able to get in touch with Karoonda in the event of the services of the doctor being needed during the night. On account of this feature I would be glad if you would give this intima tion as prominent a position as pos sible in your valued paper."
