ATTEMPTED MURDER BY TWO BUSHRANGERS. [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 12 October 1865

ATTEMPTED MURDER BY TWO BUSHRANG- ERS.- On Monday morning last, Mr. Mil- lett, inn-keeper of Palmer's Oakley, was at- tacked by bushrangers as he was riding into     Bathurst with a large sum of money upon his person, wounded, and very narrowly es-   caped with his life. He had just begun to descend the mountain near Mr. Taylor's, at the Lime-kilns, where a man with his face masked sprang out from a bush almost under the head of Mr. Millett's horse, and called upon him to bail-up. The animal was fri- ghtened by the suddenness of the man's ap- pearance, and nearly threw his rider. For the moment, Mr. Millett thought it was a acquaintance who had saluted him by way on a joke ; but as he was recovering his seaf upon the horse he was saluted in a similar manner by a man on the opposite side of the road, and saw that the fellow was preparing to cover him with a pistol or gun. Con- ceiving that the only chance of saving his   property wa...
