If they are scattered over every shelf in the house, be sure she is careless; but if she has a match-box in nearly every room, thero must be a different decis ion. I Commercial Geography of the Mis sissippi alley. The Mississippi Valley is estimated to contain over twelve hundred thousand square miles. This includes of course the country drained by all of its tribu taries. Only one river valley in the world is larger, that of the Amazon, which contains perhaps two millions of square miles. The Mississippi Valley is part of what is called the Great Cen tral Plain of North America. On the north there are the other river valleys of the St. Lawrence, the Red Hirer of the North, Mackenzie's, and numerous smaller streams flowing into the waters of Hudson's Bay. On the south there are the streams 'flowing directly into the Gulf of Mexico running a parallel course to the Mississippi, the most con siderable of these being the Rio Grande. But the feature which renders the Mississippi Valley the most important of the river valleys of the world is not its extent alone; indeed, as already in timated, in this respect the Amazon would present superior claims...

A teaspoonfol of turpentine boiled with white clothes will aid materially in the bleaching process. Milk which is changed may be sweetened and rendered fit for nsc in cooking by stirring in a little soda. To removo machine oil, wash the spots in cold water, using soap; most be done before wet in any thing else. A transparent mucilage of great te nacity may bo made by mixing rice flour with cold water and letting it gen tly simmer over the firo. To make starch polish.tale 2 ounces of spermaceti, 2 of white wax, and melt them together with gentle heat; add 1 teaspoonfol to 1 pint of starch. To keep the hands soft, mix honey, almond meal and olive oil into a paste ; use after washing with soap. Castile soap is best for use ; it will care a scratch or cut, and prevent any spot.
