Judge Douglas avowed the doctrine ia bis epecch at FrceporL that the tcr people of a territory, while in their ritorial condition, have a right to establish or prohibit slavery. This is the quintescence of squatter sovereignty, which has been repudiated by all parties at the South, with a few insignificant exceptions. The Washington Union regards it as a repudiation of the Dred Scott decision and the Ciitfunnati plat form, and as placing Douglas irrevocably beyond the pale of the great democratic party. The A'. O. Delta defends Judjre Douglas by turning that he occupies the came position ocenpied for years by Southern rtatermen.
