SEORETART SCHVUz has lhad a severe attack of heart affection ; but his physician thinks there is no immediate danger. He is only forty-nine years of ago. SHERIFF BowEN, of Charleston, announces his support of Governor Hampton and his State ticket, and predicts a majority for them, if re nominated, of eighty thousand. GOVERNOR HAMPToN's recent visit to Anderson was a perfect ovation, reminding one very forcibly of the scenes of 1876. At every station on the Greenville road he was met by immense crowds, who welcomed him with every demonstration of enthusiasm. A large number of colored people also turned out to greet him. The people of Andor son informally presented him with the finest horse in the county. Governor Hampton renewed his former pledges to govern for the benefit of the entire State. Regeneration of the Low Country. Active efforts are making to ro. vive the material inte...

WINNSBORO, S. C. Thursday, April 4. 1878. A. MEANS DAVIS, ICmITO. JNO. S. REYNOLDS, ASSOCIATE EDITOR. KIMPTON writes from Montreal that he is an honest man. Why does he not come to Columbia and repeat that? I Counbia. Columbia redeemed herself on Monday, the Democratic municipal ticket being elected without opposi.. tion. This is most gratifying, not only to the city, but to the Stato at large. During all the days of Re construction Columbia was a den of political infamy. The carcass was there, and the vultures gathered together. Big thieves and little thieves, white thieves and black thieves and ginger-broad thieves, flocked thither in swarms, and their crimes ranged in degree from the subtle manipulation of the Stato credit to barefaced, unblushing high way robbery. It was the paradise of political pariahs and beastly bui. mers. These miscreants, not con, tent with plundering the State, fell afoul of Columbia itsel', and gutted the city. The taxpayers and Demo crats were crushed t...

WINNSBORO. S. C. Saturday, April 6, 1878. i. MREANN DA VIs, EITOR. JNO. M. R: YNOLDI, ABSOCIATS ]DITroR. ONE OF THE crEF reasons urged by many for the re-nomination of Governor Hampton-that the Radi cals will not oppose him--is, per haps, the only plausible objection. The Democrats can carry the State in November, regardless of opposi tion ; while a State fight is of groat importance in securing the election of Legislative tickets. A State issue excites enthusiasm and chokes out local issues, which might otherwiso be embarrassing. A Word to the Democracy. The re.-organization of the Demo cratic party has actively begun in this county. Those clubs that have not already aligned themselves under the new constitution will be brought in in a short time, when a solid Democratic phalanx will be presented in Fairfield. This is a matter of sincere rejoicing. But prudence is a part of wisdom, and stops should not be taken pro cipitately. We are living in a vastly differ ent atmosphere now fro...
