Vt". F.W. JOHNSON, Editor and Prop Wednesday April 11, 1894. MORE OP CREED AND REASON The Original Author of the Keview Article has an Answer for his Critics. He Points out to Mr, Sheran His Many »Weak and Unreliable Conclusions. Creeds do not Establish Pacts. Natural Laws are not Bound to Obey them. Editor Review: In the Review of March 28th appears a reply by Sheran of St, Thomas Seminary,St.Paul, to an ariicle of mine formerly published in the Review relative to the doctrine of inheritance of sin and total depravity. Although Mr. Sheran's standpoint of reasoning and mine are radically differ ent, I appreciate the manner in which he proceeds to reply to my arguments. He writes in the courteous manner of a gentleman, and admits what a man writ ing from his standpoint can easily af ford to admit. There are some men who never attempt to answer arguments on religious questions in any other way than by indulging in names of an uncompli mentary order. He commences of course by remark in...

A CATHOLIC STAEDPODrT* Mr. Sherau of St. Paul Takes Exception to an Article in the Beview, Editor Review Once more I must compLun about that strange mingling of truth and falsehood which characterizes so much of what yoar correspondent has written. If I remember my early read ings of Greecian history, it wasthis prac tice that made the Sophists and sinee their time it has disgraced many scholars who might otherwise have won reputa tion for learning. For seldom, when it is resorted to, can a man vindicate a claim to honesty, your correspondent may be sincere but the strange way he mingles the above-mentioned elemenfe •causes naturally some suspicion-Moreover the caricature and cheap wit in which he indulges is scarcely worthy of place in an honest and serious search after religi ous truth. One is not surprised to find such sallies in the pages of Judge or Puck where they belong, but their ap pearance a religious diacuaaion argues a painful levity an unbecoming attitude, and gives to ...
