STEALING COAL One day hist week, a farmer living east of town, came in to purchase a load of coal, hut just as he passed the Rock Island coal chutes east of the city, he noticed quite a pile of coal laying on the ground beside the road. Not know ing, (or at least didn't care) that it belonged to the railroad com pany, he proceeded to fill his wagon at the same time congratulating himself on his good luck. Just as lie was about ready to drive off he was accosted by an oflicer of the law, who asked him how he came in possession of his coal, the far mer, not being able to give a very satisfactory explanation's taken in charge by the oflicer and turned over to the mercy of Judge Saxon, who calls for a jury trial, and the farmer is assessed a fine of S5.00 and costs, amounting in all to about $18.50.
