S RED MOUSE A Mystery Romance Copyright, 1900, by Dodd, Mead £*> Co. By WILLIAM HAMILTON OSBORNE CHAPTER VIII. JL I'TER seeing Miss Itloodgood to /\ her carriage Murgatroyd’s /% thoughts wore in a maze of A A bewildering complexity. As a matter of fart, his peace of mind was wholly gone, and it was with a far different feeling than any ho had heretofore experienced that he sought his downtown elnb for luncheon. Success at any cost! Ves, that was the way she had put it. Well, and why not? Was not that the modern idea—the spirit of the age? Ami should he hold a mere slip of a girl responsible for putting into words what every woman thinks? Ridiculous! And the United States senate was her conception of greatness. Ah. that was for Thorne. The organization, the brewers, the railroads, would send him there—buy him the job. Presently the waiter brought his luncheon. None of the dishes suited him. Finally, muttering to himself against the club's cuisine, Murgatroyd pushed away hi...

MUSICAL ENTCKTAINMENT provised program of music. Mr. Louis Gates gave three most excellent songs; his singing shows that he has improved greatly in voice culture. Miss Susie Spangler had a good story told on her by hed brother to the effect that a customer came into the music store where she is employed and asked for liquid veneering. “Liquid Veneering?” aid Miss Susie, “Who is the author of it, please?"— thinking of course that the customer was seeking sheet music. This was told in a way that made everyboy roar with laughter and Miss Susie to redeem herself went to the piano and played a composition of her own, which she decided at that moment to call Liquid Veneering. Then Mr. William Spangler went to the piano and held every one present spellbound with his playing. His first selection was Chopin’s Military Polonaise. Then he played El Nocturne” by same author, so sweetly and beautifully that the impression produced was that of the presence of angels in dreamland. But the number t...

The Way To Success / INCORPORATION ( GREAT NECESSITY Little Can Be Accomplished Without Incorporation [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 17 September 1910
The Way To Success / INCORPORATION ( GREAT NECESSITY Little Can Be Accomplished Without Incorporation The “Sentinel” is most enthusiastically in favor of the incorporation of Eagle Rock valley. A progressive community cannot get along without organization. If public improvements are desired at all, it is absolutely essential that a legal machinery be possessed by a municipality. A few private owners of property, it they happen to agree, may sometimes succeed in making a public improvement in their own immediate vicinity, but they have no power to compel the non-resident owners to join them, however much they may profit by the results of their work. Public improvements to be carried out in a rational manner and systematic form are .only possible under the plan of organization, incorporation. Public roads and streets are the most important feature of improvements. Good roads are an absolute necessity. Every dollar judiciously spent for them is quickly repaid in increased valuation. Th...
