$lxje Da ill\ Jteius. DENISON, WEDNESDAY JULY 10, 1878. W&a Prof. Symmes RightP In or about the year 1S26, Sir Richaiil Phillips propounded the the- ory that gravitation resulta from the annual revolution and daily rotation of a planet. Progressive motion of a mass alone would form a train and disperse the paiticles; rotary motion alone would throw off the particles at a tangent: combined the two be- come a force of aggregation, i. e., gravity or weight, hence the globe. Mr. John Alexander, of Washington, Texas, argues from this that if the two forces were equal the globe would be a solid, if unequal they would produce a ring; hence, as the annual motion of our earth is greater than the rotary motion, he concludes the globe is hollow. It is curious, in this connection, to read that Mr. Richard A. Proctor, the eminent astronomer, states that while viewing the recent transit of Mercury across the sun's face, he noticed a bright spot on Mercury, perfectly central, exactly resemblin...

'A'he JDaily 3Jcws. DENISON. THURSDAY JULY h, 1878. Senator Maxey thmks Texas will show a population of 2,850,000 in 18S0, without counting the children born between now and then. The Brenham Banner says " those who are the first to abuse conventions and ciy rings, are those who never attend Conventions." That is a solemn truth. Traveling ou horseback between Houston and llalrisburg, a man was, on Friday last, startled by two men dashing out of the woods on each side, with revolvers in hand, but finding he was not the right man they were after, they allowed him to proceed unharmed, though much alarmed. Ellis county instructed the dele- gates to Austin to cast their votes for Throckmorton for Governor, McCcrmick for Attorney General and Rufus S. King for Treasurer. The delegates to the Fort Worth congressional convention were in- structed to vote for Wellborn as long as there was any possibility of his nomination. Woatherford Extension. i'hc Baily Jlkws, DENISON. FRIDAY JULY u, 1378. The County Should Havo an Ab- stract of Titles. Grayson comity and the State, lost last year, in this county alone, over thirty thousand dollars in taxes due for want of a knowledge of who the land taxed belonged to. John Smith appears ou the tax roll, away back yonder, as the owner of a cer- tain tract or parcel of land, and from the roll the land is again asses- sed as the land of John Smith, when in all probability has long since passed out. of John Smith's hands. In some casese the same land may be rendered by the successor ot John Smith, but in nine cases out of ten it is not. The result is, the land is sold for taxes and bought in by the state and courty. The tittle the state and county holds is worth no- thing, for the state and county has sold Jones' land instead of Smith's. It would pay every county to have an abstract of titles.—Sherman Courier. ✓ _ Mr. II. Tone, of this city, has been at work for several years pre- paring a ...
