'J 18 ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT ZSW Using Film To Teach A History Lesson by Steve Zimmer During the modern era we have seen the evolution of film as a major source of education particularly when dealing with historical events and figures such as the recently released Malcolm X. This places a heavy responsibility on the part of the filmmaker. A moviegoer hopefully re- alizes that films such as Batman Returns Star Wars or Candyman are based upon a fictitious premise. They are based on fictional works and a disclaimer is given during the credits. Thus audiences go to see these films for the purpose of being entertained. These movies could potentially pro- voke thought and philosophi- cal ideals but people do not go to them to learn the history of Batman or Luke Skywalker. When a film is based his- tory it's a whole other genre. Movies ranging from Tucker to Ghandi have popped up in Top Ten Reasons Madrigal 10. Music Credit - A 9. Wassail! Wassail! Was- sail! 8. The big sports story on campus this fall had to have been the success of the Cow- boys Football Team. A sec- ond place finish in the TIA A Conference a national rank- ing of 8 and advancing to the NAIA Division II Quarterfinals the Football Teamreally brought thecam- pus together (see pages 7- 10). 4 FEATURES HSU Brand January 28 1993 Before You Buy the Dress By Daniel Deviney HSU Graduate Student Each year over 2.5 million couples marry and approxi- mately 1.25 million couples di- vorce. Statistics also show that of those 40 to 50 percent of couples who divorce (at least once) about 75 to 80 percent remarry. Wouldn't it be nice to get it right the first time? Doesn 't it seem sensible to do all that you can before you get married to protect you and your potential mate from becoming "divorce statistics." There are many different ways of strengthening and learning more about your premarital and potential mar- riage relationship. But it is often difficult to find and take advan- tage of the different resources that can be used. Also some pre marital counseling can be an expense people are unable to afford. We...
