? _ '! Opening of Parliament. v Parliament opens on Tuesday with the usual ; address to the Orown, and the programme to be submitted during the coming session' is one which should be watched with keen interest by all sections of the community. It comprises all solid legislation, such as' municipal reform, consolidation of the milliner laws, a Judicature bill, reintroduc tion of the Friendly Societies' Bill, Fisheries - ^ Bill, fire Brigades' Amendment Bill, Forestry Laws Amendment Bill, Early Closing Bill, Reformatory Bill, Vegetation. Diseases Bill; bill to extend the provisions of the Factories Act to sheep sheds, sup pression of indecent literature, and a bill to compel relatives of patients in asylums to ? contributo towards their support. This is heavy enough to suit the most captious, and is certainly home legislation with a venge ance. Only two bills really affect the country directly, the Vegetation Diseases Bill and the amendment of the forestry laws. The usual slaughter of...

Football. WELLINGTON v. LUCKNOW. This match was played on Bell Park on Saturday afternoon, under very unfavorable weather condi tions. In attempt wbb mado, by scattering sawdust on tho ground, to pro vido a fairly decont foothold for tho playorB, but this was of no avail, aB tho rain, which foil, at intorvuls nearly all tho afternoon, quickly mingled it with tho mud and slush. COONAMBLE RAILWAY. (To the Editor.) [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times — 17 July 1899

CO ON AMBLE EAILWAY. (To the Editor.) Sir. — I see by tho Sydney papers that tho Publio Works Committoo are taking ovidence on tho rival routes to Coonamble. As the Mudgee to Coon amble lino has BUeh a strong supporter as Mr. Harper, chief traffic manager of railways, it should be of some Interest to Wolliugson people, for if the line eoes from Mndcco.it will bo all up with the Wollington-Werris Creek lino, Mr. Harpor's evidence appears to me to offer good; grouuds for our Wellingtbn-Werris Creek Railway Loague to work on. Mr. Harpor, of courso, praises tho Mudgoo ond of the line ; further on ho says, 'after crossing the range beyond Mud geej thu lino .would run into undulating country, for which light lines of railway would bo suitable, and the country was tine agricultural land. Now, every inau that knows anything about the country knows that thoro is a'bolt of high cold riiouhtains running right through tho country, and sloping down to tho hot level land, and between the two is t...

MURRUMBIDGERIE. [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times — 20 July 1899

MURRUMBIDGERIE. (From our own correspondent.) 'After the late rains a day'B fine weather is very acceptable. The fall for this month, so far, has exceeded two inches. Our water supply has beon replenished, and everything looks promising once more for a fair spring. ? In consequence of the teacher s indispo sition, the public school was not opened till Wednesday, when the mothers, tired of the holidays,' especially 'wet ones,' were glad to send the youngsters to school once more. An inquiry was held at the public echool during the holidays, to report upon the con duct of the teacher here. School Inspector G. E.
