THINGS AND OTHERS. [Newspaper Article] — North Australian — 4 April 1884

THINGS AND OTHERS. 'OPE correspondent at the reefs informs ns that nothing is doing there at present, and consequently has not despatched his usual weekly budget. JUST before we went to press, a telegram reached-us from Melbourne stating that a terrible railway accident had just hap- pened, entailing the loss of several lires. THE total of gold per escort this week only amounted to 576 ounces, 210oz. Being for Palmerston and 33Goz. for Southport. We understand, however, that a large parcel was accidentally detained at the reefs. No pearling news this week, as the tides have been unfavorable for diving. It is rumoured that the s.s. Euxinc will have one or two pearling boats to tow np from Thursday Island, and will therefore be somewhat behind time. OUR artistical nigger.says that the China- man who paiuted the E. S. and A. C. Bank signboard should just do ore more, then take a billet as diver, and allow him to look after thc air pump. WE are given to understand that the up- country m...
