CHEAP RAILWAYS.; ; THERE can be little doubt but in this age of progress Railway communica tion is not only a convenience but a necessity to communities, and that the time must arrive sooner or later, -when tliis great and productive continent will be covered, as it were by a net work of railways; if they are to be carried out in the costly and eternally imperishable manner in which the lines of this colony have-hitherto been con structed, we can name a date for their completion as about the millcnium; if however a more simple, economic and as effective a line can be adoptedj then a large ' proportion of lines may be projected^ and carried into effective and remunerative working within a few, years. , It is unnecessary for us to expatiate upon the benefit to the commonwealth likely to accrue from [facile communi cation between the Sea ports and the large centres of population and places of production, which apart from afford opportunities for visiting the Cit...
